Finally got a break in the action here and an opportunity to expand on
ROM version 50 modifications. The definitive answer to Bob's question << How
do you tell if an i3 has the upgrade? >> is found in the "Owner's Manual
Addendum", which should have been packaged with your instrument if it is post
"upgrade" (i.e., ROM 50 and up). The following is a quote from page one of
the adendum:
"To check if your i-2/i-3 has the new ROM version installed, look at
the LCD display that appears when you first power on the i2/i3. A thin black
border should appear around the display..."
The booklet then goes on to tell about the "improvements" over
previous ROM versions and explain how they function. It doesn't specifically
talk about fixes to bugs in the pre ROM 50 code. The post ROM features are
as follows:
1. Backing sequences can be converted to Standard MIDI Files.
2. Addition of the Sound Hold function.
3. User styles can be saved to a Korg SRC-512 RAM card. (Global pg.
8
"Save Style")
4. Independent MIDI transmission channels for split keyboard (KBD 1 &
2
can be assigned to different MIDI channels in split mode on
Global pg 1).
5. Backing Sequence mode can record tempo changes in real time.
6. Tempo Lock/Transpose Lock. The manual says "The function of the
TEMPO
LOCK key has been enhanced to include control over arrangements
as
well as styles. If the TEMPO LOCK key is pressed when playing an
arrangement, the tempo will stay constant when switching to
another
arrangement. The current setting of the TRANSPOSE keys will also
be
retained if this key is pressed when switching arrangements.
7. Addition of a new velocity curve (or lack thereof). This "fix"
added curve
number 9, which generates a velocity of 90 regardless of the
actual
velocity you play...in effect turning velocity sensitivity off.
8. Addition of Delete Measure function in Edit Style mode. (Edit
Style pg 5).
9. File Name retention when saving to disk (so you don't have to
re-type it).
10. Timing TRANSPOSE keys to transpose at start of n
